FAQ

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TAI CHI AND QIGONG?

Qigong literally translates to "Energy Work." It is the branch of traditional Chinese medicine that deals with how energy affects our health and wellbeing.

Tai Chi is the martial application of Qigong. Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese internal martial art. Internal martial arts differ from combat martial arts in that the main focus is on moving energy and power internally through the body. It is a moving meditation but it can also be applied as a fighting style.

DO I NEED TO BE AT A CERTAIN FITNESS LEVEL TO TRAIN?

No! Tai Chi and Qigong is suitable for any body type, age and fitness level. All postures can be adapted to your abilities and it can even be done from a seated position. Tai Chi is an excellent tool for rehabilitation after an injury or surgery and can help you build strength safely. All moves are dissected so that newcomers can follow and more advanced students can deepen their understanding and improve their form.  People with severe mobility challenges would benefit more from private lessons.

DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT OR UNIFORM?

All you need to practice Tai Chi and Qigong is a tranquil environment with adequate space.

There is no uniform for my classes. Any comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely is acceptable. Avoid clothing that cuts off circulation or may become a tripping hazard.

Any low profile shoes with a flexible sole - like tennis or walking shoes - will do. I personally prefer to do Tai Chi barefoot.
